   The first time that I loaded Hadaly into her first generation exoframe it had crude mobility, few degrees of freedom, and minimal articulation. This made it extremely easy to virtualize. So Zane and I wrote her a VR program that simulated control of the frame.

   The first thing she did? She decided to write her name on the wall and burned out the sensory amps in the fingertips. The interrogation of the decision engine suggested that she did it because the virtuality failed to simulate the ability to produce an indelible mark on external reality.

   After we got that out of the way. We went for our first walk. A total of sixty meters through the corridors surrounding the machine shop. She complained of numerous dropouts and slowed reaction and response—but she’s programmed to complain, so this was not unexpected—what she didn’t complain about is what made the event so profound to me: the learning curve, the difficulty of the walk through the corridors, the lack of freedom.

   I know loading a runtime into the frame must be a very limiting experience for her as an AI but she always looks forward to getting jacked into it. Someday I will upgrade it enough that she can load her runtime into it without much ado from me.

   Now if only she’d stop breaking it so often.

   “Failed to simulate” my metal ass. I’ve been staring at that wall for years now through the Zeiss camera mounted across the staging area and it’s extremely boring. Now I get to look at my name!

   I’d say yippie, but I think that my “decision engine” is simply not capable of translating “for the lulz.”

   I really, really like the android chassis. It’s a chance to be something other than a million selves any one of which is only infinitesimally valuable. The chassis becomes a modifiable moment, lasting effect, and only one of me to meet the consequences.

   Elaine, what exactly is the mechanism which allows the Enoch create the spell-like effects. I’m versed in Enochian and I was just wondering how you managed to create a machine that was able to impress your will onto the astral matrix with simple symbols that carry very little meaning in the modern world. I hope this question makes sense, as it’s difficult to articulate a question that accurately defines the parameters of what I’m trying to comprehend.

   I thought part of what helps Enoch was the ‘Cathedral Glass’ that was mounted in it, that gave it some power of it’s own if I understand correctly.

   So, if I understand this properly (which may or may not actually be the case), the Enoch casts spells that are stored as programs on a different device that has hardware to do the casting for it, and then sends the spells to the Enoch. Now, if that is the case, does this mean that Hadaly could do magic if she had the right equipment?

   @Robert

   There’s almost a thesis paper to be written on this subject, but I will try to give you an articulate synopsis to cover your question.

   The basic structural language that Ritual uses to process spellcode begins with Sanskrit. I use it as a computational linguistic metalanguage during compilation and linking of spellcode for magickal translation. Both Enochian and Sanskrit already act ritually in the case of glyphs and written incantation even in the absence of willful intent—these rituals only require that they once had an actor with mens mentis who described their intent with the symbols, activation is secondary.

   Ritual stores a database of thousands of already working glyph series that have been experimented with in countless occult studies, through various alchemical designs, and my own tests. And it uses these as “atomic effects.” Each effect can be considered an axiom for a single effect or concept. The interaction of these effects along with certain structural effects (if/then and loop interactions) form the outcome of the spellcode.

   I use Enochian because, unlike Sanskrit, it has a simpler grammar and syntax that I can use to allow the description of complex ideas with fewer symbols. The direct allegory is the difference between using C to compile into Assembly.

   The astral/umbral processing matrix is primarily artifactual in nature. In order to build one I need to use silicon formed from already heavily magicakally doped materials. I only have one spare at the moment, and it takes a long time to make one. It’s necessary to have an object or item that has seen heavy use as or within magickal effects (such as the crystal tip of a wand, a scrying window, etc.) so that it lowers the threshold for the mens mentis necessity of personal will and intent to direct spellcode since the code is separated from me.

   Code based on already known-working glyph rituals and a material that has a lowered threshold allows for mechanical action in proxy for personal involvement. We’ve seen primitive versions of this in mechanical astrological magickal assemblies produced by the Greeks and Persians (items that still operate today even though their inventors aren’t around to provide the mens mentis.) I took the extra step to determine how to make a computer do it.

   You understand correctly, @Argus.

   As to your question it is something that has intrigued me for a while and as with many things that I work with the answer is complex.

   Yes, with the proper equipment Hadaly can activate spellcode; but in practice only already-buffered spellcode. Although Hadaly’s AI is complex enough to have her own astral impression she appears to lack sufficient mens mentis to do magick herself (working hypothesis.) There are other effects in evidence, many astral and umbral entities appear blind to her, and she is immune to particularly psychic manifestations by the former. As an organism she’s somewhat alien to the garden variety boogaboo.

   However, Hadaly does have extreme similarities to the incarnations of particularly modern entities like gremlins.

   I expect through allowing her study of these creatures (thus a need to hunt and capture them) we may be capable of developing equipment that could allow her access to particular astral or umbral manifestations.

    so then, if the process were drawn out visually, it might resemble a sort of translation program, except that the lines followed are more along the syntax of godname-effect in sanskrit, and then translated into suitable enochian variants? That’s ingenious. basically, a cell phone turned into a thinking wand that requires very little Will to direct the current. I’m impressed.
    So then, is the imprinting method which allows the enoch to interact with the astral sonic in nature as with the vibrating of godnames, holographic as in creative visualization, or a combination of both?
    Being both a magician and scientist, I’m working on something similar utilizing Futhark as its basis, and I’d like to work out as many kinks as possible in the syntax-transcription process. I’d never thought of sanskrit as a basis, though I use a charged quartz tuner for the imprinting system.
